Although allergen labelling requirements have significantly changed, the number of costly recalls due to allergen mis-information seems to be increasing, and deaths of sensitive individuals have occurred due to food allergens in the food service sector, says Campden BRI.

“Food allergen labelling” - a Campden BRI seminar to be held on 27 October - will focus on how companies can make sure that they are providing accurate allergen information and are not involved in the next product recall or media frenzy due to incorrect or missing allergen information.

"The seminar will also provide information for businesses wanting to take advantage of the increasing market in ‘free from’ food allergen products,” said Event Director Helen Arrowsmith, “and make sure that they are aware of developments in making precautionary ‘may contain’ allergen statements.”

The company says that delegates will find out about the current issues concerning allergen labelling – learning from the mistakes of others; discover what compliant practice is for providing allergen information for non‐prepacked food, including in the food service sector; learn how to go about making a ‘free from’ allergen claim; and get up to date with developments regarding precautionary (‘may contain’) allergen statements"
