FDA forces withdrawal of dietary supplement

03 September 2012

Dietary supplement distributor Brand New Energy has recalled all batches of EphBurn 25 after Federal Drug Administration (FDA) discovered that the product contains ephedrine alkaloids.

The presence of ephedrine alkaloids makes EphBurn 25 unapproved by the FDA.

Ephedrine alkaloids work by increasing the activity of noradrenaline or adrenergic receptors and have been linked to high blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, nerve damage, muscle injury, psychosis and memory loss. Ephedrine has been blamed for several deaths, heart attacks, strokes and seizures.

Users have been advised to cease using the product immediately and to contact Brand New Energy if health problems are experienced.
