ThaiBev has mounted a bid to take a stake in Fraser & Neave and the drinks firm's Asia Pacific Breweries joint venture with Heineken.
Oversea-Chinese Banking Corps and Great Eastern Holdings' had told the Singapore Stock Exchange that the firms had received an offer from an unnamed bidder for their combined stake in Fraser & Neave.
Yesterday (18 July), Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi, ThaiBev's president and chief executive revealed that the company is "in discussions to explore the possibility of acquiring the shareholdings".
Sirivadhanabhakdi added that the talks are ongoing and that the companies are still yet to finalise the deal.
The move could have implications for Asia Pacific Breweries - analysts Nomura have warned that Heineken could walk away from the joint venture if a deal is agreed.
