Virun launches 'Nutra-Biosciences' platform after winning patents

30 August 2012

Walnut, California-based biotechnology firm Virun has won several new patents for its nano-encapsulation technologies which allow non-polar compounds such as Omega-3 EPA DHA and CoQ10 to more effectively incorporated into food and beverages.

Off-the-back of winning the new patents, Virun has launched a new platform to accelerate the expansion and exclusivity of new and added-value food and beverage products. Nutra-Biosciences are the combination of nutraceutical ingredients with biotechnology to deliver new health supplements.

Virun said that the new platform will support the development of food and beverage applications containing novel compounds such as EPA DHA Omega-3, Lycopene and Astaxanthin.

"With such new technologies, we felt compelled to create a new space within our industry that is specific toward what it is VIRUN does; this new space will help accelerate new branded products and support current brands with shelf stable and clearer EPA DHA Omega-3 compounds,” said Philip Bromley, Virun's chief executive.
