OatWell® oat bran is an all natural ingredient with unique properties for many food applications, including RTE cereals, breakfast cereals, bars, biscuits, bread, pasta, instant drink and liquid applications. Health
For health benefits, a significant content of soluble fibres (ß-glucan) is required. In fact, the U.S. FDA awarded the first-ever food-specific claim to oat bran because of its heart health benefits. The oats ingested must contain a minimum concentration of 0.75 g of ß-glucan per serving, with a recommended daily intake of 3 g, in order to improve cholesterol levels and to help maintain a healthy heart.
Many positive effects have been attributed to the ingestion of oat products, including cholesterol control, regulation of the glucose and insulin metabolism and an improved gastrointestinal function. These beneficial properties are attributed to the soluble fibre found in oats, which is called ß-glucan. In OatWell®  oat bran, the natural, gelling fibres are present in high contents due to a careful stabilization process of oat bran. Products
Only 2,68 grams of OatWell®  oat bran needs to be added in a recipe to ensure 0,75 grams of ß-glucan per serving, whereas a tenfold amount of rolled oats, oatmeal or oat flakes would be required to reach the same level of concentration (approx 150 g rolled oats provide 3 g ß-glucan). The recent published positive article 13 opinion on oat beta-glucan of EFSA acknowledges the previous health claim approvals for OatWell® oat bran in UK, France, Netherlands and Sweden based on scientific evidence and dossier submission.

The evidence of OatWell® oat beta-glucan is compelling and is exclusively positioned for use in the development of heart healthy foods in full compliance with health claim conditions of use: physiological functionality based on high molecular weight, solubility, viscosity and bioavailability.
 
 
Currently, OatWell® oat beta-glucan is the only eligible ingredient with monitored thresholds of molecular weight, solubility and viscosity that can be used in food products to make heart health claims based on these active physical properties as also outlined in the EFSA assessment and scientific substantiation of the claimed effect. OatWell® oat bran may be included in a product for many different reasons.
