Coca Cola drops marketer over Dr Pepper gaffe

Soft beverage giant Coca Cola has dropped the agency behind its Dr Pepper marketing campaign.

Last week, the brand was forced to stop its Dr Pepper Facebook promotion after an offensive status update was posted on a 14-year-old girl's social media page.

The campaign offered fans of the drink a chance to win money if they allowed Dr Pepper to hijack their status.

However, the girl's page contained a reference to a pornographic video, which prompted Coca Cola to cease the campaign.

The marketing move was being run by the agency Lean Mean Fighting Machine, which has now been dropped by the beverage giant.

Before the scandal broke, the digital agency had won Coca Cola's Coke Zero contract but it will now not be conducting that campaign.

A Coca Cola spokesperson said: "We have stopped all our ongoing work with Lean Mean Fighting Machine and have come to a mutual agreement to end our relationship with the agency."
