Hershey launches smaller treatsConfectionary firms in the US are attempting to appeal to calorie-cutting consumers with new bite-size treats. Hershey is among the firms taking up this trend, having advertised smaller versions of its Hershey's Special Dark candy bar, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Almond Joy bar in the US. Speaking to the New York Times, a Hershey spokeswoman Jody Cook said that the new products give consumers more choice. "Consumers needed something that was easy to snack on when on the go. You can just grab a couple and pop them in your mouth from a bowl or bag," she added. Ms Cook continued to say that rather than impacting on sales of larger bars she thinks the new products will encourage people to share the treats in a social setting. Earlier this month, it was reported that Hershey, which is the US's second biggest chocolate maker, had seen a 40 per cent rise in full-year profits following a price increase.
