Kellogg's reduces salt content

Cereal manufacturer Kellogg's has announced that it will be reducing the levels of salt in its most popular brands.

The company will be cutting the amount of salt in its Corn Flakes and Rice Krispie brands by 30 per cent. No salt replacement ingredients will be used and Kellogg's claims that the change will have a "negligible impact on total calories and other nutrients for each product".

Corn Flakes were the first product to be created by Kellogg's over 100 years ago.

Other brands in the Kellogg's cereal range are due to undergo similar changes, including the Crunchy Nut, Frosties, Coco Pops and Rice Krispies Squares products.

Alyson Greenhalgh-Ball, the head of nutrition at Kellogg's, said: "For the past 12 years we've been listening to our shoppers and taken down the amount of salt in our food. We've been doing this slowly so we take people's palates with us and so they don’t notice any difference in taste."

She added that since 1998 the levels of salt in Kellogg's cereals have been reduced by 45 per cent.
