Nestle 'to drop drink health claims'Beverage and food giant Nestle has dropped health claims it made it a recent ad campaign for one of its children's beverages. The advert, which was shown in the US, targeted parents telling them that Boost Kids Essentials could stop children from getting colds leading them to miss school. According to the US Federal Trade Commission, the ads were deceptive and, due to this, Nestle has agreed to drop the claims from the marketing campaign. "Food companies are marketing more of what they call functional foods," said Karen Mandel, a staff lawyer for the trade commission. "If the claims are not substantiated, that's what we're looking for; to make sure the claims are truthful." Recently, the UK public were called on to protest against claims made by Nestle about its baby formula. British campaign group Baby Milk Action called for people to boycott Nestle's breast milk substitute because it believes it does not "protect" babies in the way in which it claims to.
