PepsiCo to develop healthier products

PepsiCo has announced that it is to capitalise on the thriving health food and drinks market with the launch of several new products, reports the Sunday Telegraph.

Indra Nooyi, the chief executive of PepsiCo, told the newspaper that the beverage company proposes to invest $30 billion (£19 billion) into the development of health products. Plans are for the company to treble the revenues created from its healthier ranges.

Products included in the Tropicana and Quaker Oats range will undergo changes to make them more healthy and suitable for children.

Ms Nooyi said that the "first part of the transformation" of PepsiCo was to make its snack and treat products, which account for a large proportion of the company's revenue, healthier.

"The second part is the $10 billion that we have in PepsiCo that represents good-for-you products. Our long-term goal is to figure how to grow this part of the business really fast," she explained.

It was also revealed that PespiCo may begin working on a nutritional drinks product aimed at children.

Business Week reported recently that the company has brought in Derek Yach, a former executive director of the World Health Organisation, to help improve the nutritional value of its snack food and drinks products.
