During the hydrolysis process, allergy-causing areas on a protein (epitopes) are destroyed or reduced to a minimum. Whey hydrolysates can benefit all formula fed infants as they are more easily digested. Ingestion of a protein hydrolysate, as opposed to the intact protein, is thought to facilitate protein digestion and absorption and increase plasma amino acid availability.
