i-Sabi
Product description
i-Sabi,
a freeze-dried powder derived from Wasabia japonica. Wasabi, also known as
Japanese horseradish is a member of the cruciferous plant family known for various significant health-promoting effects. Widely known for its spicy and unique flavor as sushi
condiment, it is seldom used because genuine wasabi is rare and expensive.
Real Wasabia japonica is grown in remote regions of the world where the temperature, elevation and climate must be pristine year-round. Wasabi's key active compound called 6-methylsulfinylhexyl isothiocyanate (6-HITC) has been shown to possess various biological properties including induction of a master redox switch, Nrf2. Nrf2 induction is required to turn on many genes such as glutathione S-transferases (GST) and NQO-1 that are involved in stress-responses and cytoprotection. In addition, 6-HITC has been also shown to inhibit the NF-kB-mediated pro-inflammatory pathway and i-Sabi containing high levels of 6-HITC suppresses Cox-2, but not Cox-1, i-Sabi stimulates or inhibits several key genes to promote wellness.
The Wasabi plant has a naturally activated defense system called the glucosinolate-myrosinase system, which produces 6-HITC. ITCs naturally protect that plant from dangerous pathogens and plant destroying fungi. ITCs from the cruciferous plants have been extensively researched and have been found to be greatly beneficial for human health.
