It is used as a preserving and antioxidant agent and is also known as Potassium Pyrosulphite, Dipotassium Disulphite, KMS, E224 etc.

As a food preservative in dried fruits and concentrated fruit juices

In wine and beer making equipment, mainly as a sanitizing agent
As a bleaching agent in the production of coconut cream
In cleaning potable water in a process known as reverse osmosis
