Sodium saccharin is an artificial sweetener. It is about 450 to 550 times sweeter than sugar (saccharose) but it leaves a bitter to metallic aftertaste and is used as a sweetener in foods and beverages. As saccharin amplifies the effect of sugar substitutes and other sweeteners, such as aspartame (E 951) and cyclamate (E 952), it is generally used in a mixture with these substances. The human body cannot convert saccharin, which means it does not supply any energy (it is calorie-free). The food industry uses mainly the sodium salt of this sweetener, as it is easily dissolved in water. Sodium saccharin is heat-stable, even in the presence of other acids. This makes the product suitable for use in baked goods. In addition to its application in the food industry, sodium saccharin is also used in the cosmetics and oral care industry, for example as a sweetener in toothpaste, thanks to the fact that it is not carious. In the electroplating sector, it is used for surface coatings, since it promotes even and stress-free coating. Saccharin is also used as a sweetener in animal feed. Saccharin is a white, crystalline powder, which is supplied in various mesh sizes by HELM AG. Packaging: 25 kg cartons with inner PE bag. Applications: Sodium saccharin is used as a sweetener in energy-reduced beverages, sweets, medicinal drugs, fruit recipes for yoghurts, marmalades, jams and in the flavourings and dental sectors. In addition, it also finds application in desserts, sweet-and-sour canned fruit and vegetables, sweet-and-sour canned fish products, sauces, mustard, alcoholic beverages and in food supplements. Sodium saccharin can be used in virtually any application calling for a low-calorie sweetener.
