KitoZyme announces nufruit

Animal-free chitosan company KitoZyme has collaborated with Boston-based Incredible Foods to create nufruit, which it describes as a new and innovative way to eat five fruits and vegetables a day.

According to the company, nufruit is a low-calorie, fresh and natural real fruit bite that delivers deliciousness without any of the big eight most common food allergens. Its size and shape make it fun to eat for everyone, KitoZyme believes. Each nufruit serving has the Vitamin C of an orange and the fibre of an apple, no artificial flavourings, colourings, or preservatives, and each nufruit snack tray has only 45 calories or fewer.

KitoZyme says that, in order to develop a round, soft fruit snack-like product, Incredible Foods tested many technologies, finally selecting KitoZyme’s chitosan for benefits including improved food conservation; ingredient quality preservation; film formation; animal-free, allergen-free and gluten-free; and appropriate for use in Kosher, Halal and vegetarian products/diets.

Nufruit is available in four flavours, including Tropical Orange, Strawberry Banana, Mixed Berry and Sour Apple. Each nufruit package contains five trays with seven nufruit bites per tray. It is currently in commercialisation test in 20 food stores in Boston, USA.
