Bionov files patent, announces partnership

melon-380795Bionov has announced that it has filed a new patent on the original and unique composition of SOD B, a dried melon juice highly concentrated in an essential antioxidant enzyme: the SuperOxide Dismutase (SOD).

“This patent focuses on the optimal antioxidant capacity of SOD B, which is characterised for the first time of three different SOD isoforms, each having a specific metal enzymatic co-factor and a specific molecular weight,” said Benoit Lemaire, Business and Marketing director of Bionov. “This specific composition of SODs confers to SOD B a synergistic and optimal antioxidant capacity, and the new patent strengthens the efficiency of SOD B as the best source of SOD available on the market.”

SOD B is available with two coatings, adapted for the formulation of dietary supplements and instant drinks, under the brand names Extramel for well-being, Dimpless for skin beauty and Primo-antioxidant for anti-aging.

The company has also announced that it has engaged in a new partnership with flavours and flagrances company Robertet.

“The main objective is to benefit from the know-how in food technology of Robertet, and to develop and boost the use of SOD B solutions in food applications, especially for the formulation of energy bars,” said Lemaire. “Through the expertise of Robertet in flavour solutions, and Bionov’s intensive R&D activity on SOD, this partnership will allow to propose to food market actors, stable and aromatic solutions with clinical efficiency.”
