Germany-headquartered Emsland is a vegetable protein and fibre pioneer responding in earnest to the food sector’s sustainability challenge, while supporting its customers to develop plant-based, clean label and nutritionally enhanced products through “using nature to create”.
Processing more that 2.2 million tons of potatoes and over 160,000 tons of peas annually, Emsland Group has created a 900-million-euro global business by transforming these humble vegetables into a truly unique and creative portfolio of products.

Speaking to the editorial team at Fi Europe 2023, Dr Cindy Semeijn – Emsland’s Business Development Manager – outlined the role its innovative proteins and fibres (including pea protein isolates, and pea- and potato-based thickeners and texturisers) will play in supporting tomorrow’s food creations, as the world continues its shift towards plant-based alternatives across a multitude of categories.
In the insightful discussion, Dr Semeijn also touched upon the increasing prominence of environmental concerns amongst consumers, and thus Emsland’s customers too – and the growing importance (for both her company, and for other players across the industry) of earmarking investments in sustainable management, as well as accurately communicating progress in this area.
And indeed, Emsland Group has done just that with the recent launch of its third sustainability report, outlining all the facts and figures relating to this pea and potato starch pioneer’s substantial advancements in reducing environmental impact across its operations.
