Garcinia cambogia, a small pumpkin-shaped tropical fruit also known as the Malabar tamarind, is used in weight-loss supplements. The fruit’s rind contains an active ingredient, Hydroxycitric acid, which blocks the enzyme citrate lyase involved in endogenous lipid biosynthesis. It also increases hepatic glycogen synthesis, suppresses appetite.
