Marinova celebrated for sustainability leadership
9 Jan 2025The sustainability credentials of biotechnology company Marinova have been recognised across Australia with two high profile business awards.
Marinova is the global leader in fucoidan science. The innovative Australian biotechnology company is dedicated to the development and production of high purity seaweed extracts for the betterment of human health. Marinova specialises in the research, development and manufacture of fucoidan compounds – highly bioactive polysaccharides derived from select species of brown seaweed.

Marinova's commitment to sustainability was recently recognised in the Tasmanian Export Awards. After taking out the Sustainability and Green Economy Award, the company was named the overall 2024 Tasmanian Exporter of the Year and went on to represent Tasmania at the Australian Export Awards. The Australian Export Awards recognise the innovation, resilience and global success of exporters across various industries.
Marinova was also named the Tasmanian State Winner of the Promoting Sustainability category in the highly regarded Telstra Best of Business Awards. With a history that spans more than three decades, the Telstra Best of Business Awards are widely recognised as Australia’s most prestigious business awards program. They shine a spotlight on the remarkable achievements of the country’s most dynamic enterprises.
Speaking of the two announcements, Marinova’s CEO Paul Garrott said, “We are honoured that our longstanding commitment to sustainability has been recognised. For more than two decades, Marinova has focused on the sustainable production of high quality marine extracts, transforming an introduced seaweed species into bioactive ingredients for some of the world’s most trusted healthcare brands.”
Mr Garrott continued, “This recognition is testament to Marinova’s exceptional team of personnel. Their dedication to delivering genuine environmental, health and economic benefits has shaped the company’s position as the global leader in its field. From the hand harvesting of introduced seaweeds and the development of proprietary green chemistry extraction technology, to the productive reuse of by-product and the utilisation of renewable energy – the list of sustainability initiatives that support our fucoidan extracts span the entire length of the supply chain.”
