Senomyx announces Pepsi test

52834Taste science technologies company Senomyx has announced the first commercialisation of Sweetmyx S617 has been achieved.

Senomyx specialises in additives that change how food tastes and smells.  Sweetmyx is not a sweetener as such: rather, it is said to work by enhancing the sweet taste of sugar or artificial sweeteners, enabling manufacturers to reduce the amount of sweeteners used in foods and beverages.

“In August, Senomyx earned a commercial milestone from PepsiCo for the first sale of a concentrate using Sweetmyx S617. Reformulated concentrates will be used in Manzanita Sol nationally and Mug Root Beer in two United States test markets,” said John Poyhonen, President and Chief Executive Officer of Senomyx. “We are looking forward to receiving feedback on the market acceptance of these lower-calorie offerings.”

Senomyx has two partners on its Sweet Taste Program. PepsiCo has exclusive rights to use new flavour ingredients and natural high intensity sweeteners worldwide in non-alcoholic beverages and Firmenich has rights to commercialise new flavour ingredients for food product categories and alcoholic beverages, with exclusive rights to use Sweetmyx S617 until March 2018.
