The parent company of Tylenol has launched a supplement based on TamaFlex, a patented combination of tamarind seed and turmeric extracts, with studies showing joint pain relief in as little as five days.
Tylenol has entered the supplement space with a pair of joint care products featuring a proprietary extract that has been independently developed over several years.
Tylenol is manufactured and marketed by Kenvue, the former Consumer Healthcare division of Johnson & Johnson that was spun off in 2022. The new supplement products are grouped under the brand name Proactive Support and are sold as dietary supplements.

The products are based on TamaFlex, a proprietary combination of extracts of tamarind seed (Tamarindus indica) and turmeric (Curcuma longa), which has been under development by NXT-USA for several years. The company has conducted multiple clinical trials on the ingredient, which Eric Anderson, managing director, said made the difference in its selection for the new Tylenol SKUs.
“They took a significant amount of time to evaluate our material, from physical characteristics to composition to an exhaustive review of our research. They did their due diligence with their own scientists and physicians,” Anderson told SupplySide Supplement Journal.
Anderson said the development process on TamaFlex stretches back more than five years. “We started working on TamaFlex in 2019, when we began screening herbs for our target mechanism,” he said. That target mechanism included demonstrating effects in both enzymatic and oxidative stress pathways to relieve mild to moderate joint discomfort.
The NXT-USA team published three studies on their patented combination, which showed that subjects experienced relief from mild to moderate osteoarthritis knee pain in as little as five days. Anderson noted that the size and quality of the studies, along with the totality of evidence, were key factors in attracting a drug maker like Kenvue.
“We only wanted to look at areas that addressed serious health concerns that affect people’s quality of life as they age. We also wanted to make sure that our products would be clinically relevant,” Anderson said. “We know this stuff works and we did complete safety data, and we put all of that into the public record.”
The TamaFlex ingredient, offered at a standard 250 mg dose, forms the backbone of two Tylenol-branded supplements.
