The Ganzai technique originated in the third year of the Genroku era (1688-1704) when Masatoshi Maeda, the second lord of the Toyama domain, cured a feudal lord’s sudden stomachache with a pill he always carried. This incident marked the beginning of Toyama’s renowned reputation as a medicine center in Japan.
