Bromelain is a complex combination of mulitple endopeptidases of thiol and other compounds as phosphatase, glucosidase, peroxidase, cellulase, escharase and several protease inhibitors derived from the pineapple fruit, stem and/or root.

Bromelain has been widely used in pharmaceutical and medical, food, detergent, cosmetic and textile industries. It shows promise in the absorbtion of drugs, anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombotic activities, as well as aiding digestion among other benefits.
