Sugar reduction in drinks is a hot topic, notes Campden BRI, pointing out that the UK government will introduce the soft drink levy in April 2018, which will affect all producers and importers of soft drinks with more than five grams of added sugar per 100ml, including alcoholic drinks with up to 1.2% alcohol by volume.

To avoid or reduce the impact of the levy, Campden says, producers must either reformulate their drinks to reduce the amount of added sugar to below the five gram limit or reduce their portion size.

Sugar reduction in beverages will be the subject of a Campden BRI seminar on 27 March 2018. A range of speakers from industry and Campden BRI will help participants to understand the most challenging aspects of sugar reduction in drinks including regulatory requirements and considerations; technical considerations; improving the flavour of reformulated products using flavour modifications; improving mouthfeel; and replacing sweetness.

This seminar will, says Campden, be of interest to NPD managers, technologists, nutritionists and technical managers.
