Enzymotec has announced that it has made a breakthrough in krill oil quality standards by applying a new set of biological quality parameters for krill oil evaluation.
The quality parameters used today for measuring krill oils are mainly chemical parameters that are tested during shelf life, the company says. However, those parameters do not refer to the changes in krill oil’s biological activity after consumption. Enzymotec says that it is defining for the first time quality parameters that test krill oil through the entire supply chain, from its harvesting until it reaches the digestion system. By using a simulation model for measuring the biochemical quality of the krill oil in the digestion system, Enzymotec claims it is setting biological quality parameters to be used on top of the standard ones.
All leading krill oil brands sold today were tested in this quality model and the company says it was found that the only krill oil succeeding to meet these quality parameters is Enzymotec’s krill oil.
“This scientific breakthrough indicates once again Enzymotec’s persistence to bring highest quality and safety standards to the krill oil industry,” said Dr. Ariel Katz, President and Chief Executive Officer of Enzymotec.
