Horsetail (Equisetum arvense L) belongs to the Equisetaceae family. It can be found throught the whole Poland and it is also cultivated for medical purposes. Medicinal part of the plant is horsetail herb (Equiseti herba) which contains large quantities of soluble silica SiO2, as well as flavonoids (glycosides of quercetin and kaempferol), mineral components (potassium salts, calcium, iron, manganese, magnesium).
Products made of horsetail herb are traditionally used for superficial wounds. They also increase the amount of urine in the urinary tract in order to rinse it. Horstail herb is commonly used to improve the condition of skin, hair and nails.
