In our research laboratory, we experiment and create unique, truly effective, functional dietary supplements and cosmetics. This daily commitment has allowed us, over the years, to develop and patent an innovative extraction process for organic lycopene and other plant-based antioxidants.

We develop and produce private-label functional dietary supplements and cosmetics.
Thanks to ongoing research and development, our researchers, in collaboration with the University of Salento, the CNR-ISPA (Institute of Food Production Sciences) of Bari and Lecce, and with the support of the Italian Ministry of Research, have developed and patented (International Patent WO2008-015490A1) an innovative process for extracting lycopene from organic tomatoes. This process uses carbon dioxide (CO2) under supercritical conditions instead of traditional chemical solvents that are highly toxic and harmful to humans and the environment.

To obtain organic lycopene, we start by removing the seeds, fibrous components, and water from fresh tomatoes, homogenizing them and turning them into a concentrate. The resulting concentrate is then subjected to a dehydration process to obtain tomato powder, which serves as the extraction matrix.

The powder is then transferred to the pilot plant for extraction with supercritical CO2. The ability to control the density of the CO2 by adjusting the pressure and temperature within the system allows for the selective extraction of only the bioactive complex.

As soon as the extraction phase is complete, the CO2 is returned to a gaseous state by lowering the pressure within the system. This causes the carbon dioxide to lose its solvent capacity, releasing pure, highly concentrated, organic-grade lycopene.

Compared to traditional processes using chemical solvents, the supercritical CO2 extraction process offers numerous significant advantages:

Superior quality natural products are obtained, with the same "natural" characteristics found in fresh plants, without the contamination of chemical solvents.The production cycle is shorter and simpler.The production plant is environmentally friendly, non-polluting, and has minimal environmental impact. Processing residues are not contaminated by chemical solvents, so there are no disposal issues. Carbon dioxide has no odor, no taste, is non-toxic (breathable), and is non-flammable.It ensures better overall hygiene and safety conditions: workers involved in the process are not exposed to toxic or harmful solvents.When the pressure drops and the carbon dioxide returns to a gas, it is recycled for use in the next process.
