Company description

Morus is a Japan-born food and healthcare startup developing MorSilk®, a proprietary silkworm-derived functional ingredient for preventive health and sustainable nutrition. Built on joint research with Shinshu University, MorSilk® consists bioactive compounds such as DNJ and silk proteins to support postprandial glucose management, gut health, and broader metabolic wellness.

What makes Morus unique is that we do not only sell a supplement. We operate an integrated platform spanning ingredient R&D, product development, branded consumer products under KAIKO®, OEM supply, academic collaboration, and nutrition education. This allows us to create value from upstream raw material innovation to downstream customer experience.

Our business is positioned at the intersection of Bio/Healthcare, functional food, and climate-conscious food innovation. Compared with conventional animal-derived or high-carbon functional ingredients, silkworm-derived nutrition offers significantly lower environmental impact while delivering strong scientific and commercial potential. Our broader vision is to turn sericulture, a 5,000-year-old industry, into a next-generation category for global preventive healthcare.

We already have commercial traction in Japan and Singapore, and sales records in other Asian markets including Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. As a Series A company, we are now expanding our international footprint through both B2B ingredient partnerships and B2C branded products. Through the Seoul Unicorn Challenge, we aim to establish strategic partnerships in Korea and accelerate our entry into one of Asia’s most promising preventive health and beauty-oriented markets.
