Company description
We are Origin by Ocean, a Finnish platform-based algae refining company formed in 2019. Our mission is to make the chemical industry run on algae. Our patented biorefining process makes it possible to extract bio-based chemicals from harvested invasive algae and ecologically farmed seaweed.
Our algae harvesting platform provides livelihoods for coastal entrepreneurs around the world. We care deeply about the environment and society, and pride ourselves on our quality,innovation and creativity.
Our organic algae-based products substitute traditional chemical ingredients in food and beverages, cosmetics,hygiene, textiles and other industries. Our products, true to all shades of blue, offer several health benefits, support existing industrial value chains and wash our oceans in the process.

Origin by Ocean partners with the CABB Group for a first-of-a-kind biorefinery to commercialize ingredients from invasive brown algae
The transition away from fossil-based ingredients has put industries like cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals in urgent need of sustainable, functional alternatives on a large scale. With the new partnership, Origin by Ocean aims to build a biorefinery in Finland, opening the pathway to establish multiple facilities globally where algae is a major problem for the environment and people. The biorefinery will be the first in the world to extract valuable chemicals from sargassum.
