Oxidative stress: A big problem to manage

Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance in our cells due to an increase in free radicals or a fall in antioxidants that leads to the generation of toxic reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as hydrogen peroxide, organic hydro peroxides, nitric oxide, superoxide, and hydroxyl radicals, etc. Oxidative stress plays a crucial role in the development of age-related diseases.

In young healthy subjects, oxygen free radicals are swiftly eliminated from inside cells by natural antioxidants. This elimination is insufficient in chronically sick or elderly people.

Health effects of chronic oxidative stress

Free radical oxygen exposure triggers chronic inflammation, opening the door to cell aging and genetic deterioration, as well as to the diseases of aging, including all the diseases on the chart and more.

At least 90% of all our modern-day diseases are caused by oxidative stress and inflammation. 3

Thus, there is great emphasis on antioxidant supplement therapy that targets reactive oxygen species.

THE POWER OF ANTIOXIDANTS AS POLYPHENOLS

To maintain defence against the destructive oxygen species, an appropriate balance of anti-oxidative defences is necessary.

Polyphenols are a large class of plant compounds that are found in many different foods, including fruits, vegetables, and beverages like coffee, tea and wine.

Several studies show that people who have the highest polyphenol intake live the longest.

Emerging research evidence has suggested that antioxidants can control the autoxidation by interrupting the propagation of free radicals or by inhibiting the formation of free radicals and subsequently reduce oxidative stress, improve immune function, and increase healthy longevity.

Pivotal research from the University of Barcelona in Spain confirmed that people over 65 whose diets contained at least 650 mg of polyphenols a day were 30% less likely to die of any cause over 12 years of the study. 3

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that only one in ten of them get the recommended 1½ to 2 cups of fruits per day and 2 to 3 cups of vegetables. 3

Experts agree the people need 1,000 mg of polyphenols daily to attain optimum health, especially over the age of 50. It is not easy to meet that target. 3

Vintera™ Grape extract: A rich source of polyphenols

Vintera is an upcycled grape extract that has been carefully processed to contain high levels of numerous antioxidants like proanthocyanidins, monomers, and anthocyanins in standardized concentrations. These compounds are associated with various health benefits, making Vintera a valuable natural ingredient for a range of applications, such as supplements, sport nutrition, food&beverage products, and nutricosmetics. The main health benefits are:

Cardiovascular Health: Several studies have investigated the cardiovascular effects of grape extract. These studies suggest that grape extract may have cardiovascular benefits, particularly in improving endothelial function and reducing cardiovascular risk factors such as blood pressure.

Sport Recovery: A systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the effects of dietary anthocyanins on exercise recovery. The review concluded that dietary anthocyanins may have a beneficial effect on exercise recovery, particularly in reducing inflammation, oxidative stress, and muscle damage. The review also found that dietary anthocyanins may improve subjective measures of muscle soreness, perceived recovery and improving power after exercise.

Brain Health: Evidence suggests that grapes might have a positive effect on cognitive health. In particular, some aspects of the memory domain as well as motor skills and executive functions may derive benefit.

Hytolive®: Olives your life with this powerful antioxidant

Hytolive® contains a high purity of upcycled natural hydroxytyrosol (up to 25%). Hydroxytyrosol is a remarkable compound that has gained significant attention in recent years due to its proven health benefits and unique properties. It is a natural phenolic compound found abundantly in olives and olive oil, it is considered a key bioactive compound responsible for the numerous health benefits associated with Mediterranean diet. Hytolive, offers several potential health benefits:

Anti-aging: Hydroxytyrosol is a potent antioxidant, which means it helps combat oxidative stress in the body. This can reduce the risk of chronic diseases and slow down the aging process.

Heart Health: It has been linked to improved cardiovascular health by cholesterol levels, preventing LDL oxidized and promoting healthy blood vessel function. This can reduce the risk of heart disease.

Joint Health: Hydroxytyrosol has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce inflammation throughout the body, potentially lowering the risk of chronic inflammatory conditions.
