Valerian (Valeriana officinalis L.) belongs to the Valerianaceae family. It is one of four plants that has the largest harveting area in Poland. Herbal raw material of the plant is the underground part – valerian root. It contains essential oil, tannins, sesquiterpene acids, including valerenic acid, tannins.
Valerian root has a long history and much evidence of efficacy – it has a well-established medical use status for reducing mild nervous tension and sleep disorders. In addition, it has a comprehensive effect on neurotic cardiac and gastric disorders.
