Every year, millions of tons of cashew apples go to waste—yet they hold incredible potential!For every 1 kg of harvested cashew nuts, 10 kg of cashew apples are discarded.

At AKOUA (www.akoua.de), we transform this overlooked fruit into valuable products:

The challenge? Cashew apples are highly perishable, spoiling within hours of harvest.To preserve their value, they must be processed immediately—but the necessary infrastructure is lacking.

On November 19, 2024, AKOUA won the Food ingredients Europe‘s Start-Up Challenge in the category "Most Innovative Sustainable Solution“ for its cashew juice concentrate—a milestone for innovation and sustainability.
