Ginger is generally called Ginger root or Jamaica ginger and is scientifically known as Zingiber officinale. It is produced in clusters and belongs to Zingiberaceae family of Zingiberales order. Oil from ginger is extracted from unpeeled and dried rhizomes of ginger by means of steam distillation. Color of this essential oil varies from pale yellow to dark yellow or dark amber. Its consistency ranges from medium to watery and it has strong spicy, sharp and warm odor with hints of lemon and pepper that resembles with actual ginger tang. Perennial herb of ginger heightens up to 4 feet with spear shaped leaves and bears thick tuberous rhizomes. Pharmaceutical Uses: Ginger oil is used in the treatment of fractures, rheumatism, arthritis, bruising, carbuncles, diarrhea, colic, cramps, nausea, hangovers, travel and sea sickness, colds and flu, sores on the skin, sore throat,catarrh, congestion, coughs, sinusitis, chills and fever.
