Nestlé announces commitments for 2020

Nestlé has announced its new 2020 commitments together with three long-term ambitions, in support of the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The long-term ambitions: to help 50 million children to lead healthier lives; help to improve 30 million livelihoods in communities directly connected to its business activities; and strive for zero environmental impact in its operations.

The company said it continues to work to bring societal commitments to life through three impact areas: individuals and families, communities, and the planet.

One example Nestlé notes is a global commitment to reduce the sugar it adds to its products by 5% by 2020. In Europe alone, reaching this target will mean it will remove at least 18,000 tonnes of sugar from products.

This and other examples come together in Nestlé’s report 'Nestlé in society: Creating Shared Value and meeting our commitments 2016’ which details the company’s 42 Nestlé in society commitments, to be achieved by 2020, the progress it has made and its ambitions for the future, all of which the company says helped it top the 2016 Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
