Product description

Piperine is a natural alkaloid and the primary pungent compound and bioactive constituent of black pepper (Piper nigrum). Its chemical formula is C₁₇H₁₉NO₃, with CAS number 94-62-2 and a molecular weight of 285.34 g/mol.

Piperine is best known for its role as a bioavailability enhancer—it can significantly improve the absorption of various nutrients, herbal actives, and pharmaceutical compounds. Piperine inhibits the glucuronidation metabolic pathway in the liver, slowing the metabolism and elimination of many substances from the body, thereby markedly improving their absorption. For this reason, piperine is commonly used as an adjuvant in dietary supplements containing curcumin, CoQ10, and various vitamins. Piperine has been recognized as "Generally Recognized as Safe" (GRAS) by the U.S. FDA.
