Catechin, also known as catechic acid and catechin (Caredhieacid), is a class of phenolic active substances of Green Tea Extract and other natural plants, with the molecular formula of C15H14O6 and relative molecular mass of 290.28.
Catechins have various pharmacological effects such as antitumor, antioxidant, antibacterial and protection of heart and brain organs, which are mainly determined by their polyhydroxy structure.
Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is the most effective active ingredient of tea polyphenols, which belongs to catechins.EGCG has antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, anti-atherosclerosis, anti-thrombosis, anti-vascular proliferation, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effects.
