Alginic acid
Product description
Alginic acid is a natural polyuronic acid obtained from brown seaweed like Lessonia Nigrescen, LessoniaTrabeculata(Flavicans),Ascophyllum nodosum, kelp. A linear copolymer formed by β-D-mannuronic acid (M) and α-L-guluronic acid (G) through 1,4-bonding, the content of G and M in alginic acid has a significant effect on the gelling performance. It can act with sodium salt, potassium salt, calcium salt to from sodium alginate, potassium alginate, calcium alginate, which has the characteristics of thickening, suspending, emulsifying, stabilizing, forming gel, forming film and spinning fiber. It is used in food, texitle printing and dyeing, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics etc.
Alginic acid uses:
Industrial use
Alginic acid can quickly absorb water and can be used as a dehydrating agent and sizing agent in paper and textile industries. Its main function is to be used as an emulsifier or thickener in the food industry and daily chemical industry in the form of sodium alginate or potassium alginate. It is a common ingredient in food and cosmetics such as ice cream and milkshakes.
Medicine:
In the pharmaceutical industry, alginic acid is a commonly used as excipient: its viscosity makes it a tablet binder.
Because it swells with water, it is used as a disintegrant to disperse the tablet in the human body, or as a Dispersants - disperse the active ingredient into a liquid to become a suspension, it is the main raw material for the production of Gastropin.
Alginate is used as a drug release agent.
In dentistry uses algin to replace plaster and rubber to make dental models.
Alginic acid itself can be used as an absorbent to treat heavy metal poisoning.
