History
During the Inca Empire era Maca was considered a sacred food for elite
and also was allocated to the soldiers for vitality and strength.
Nutrients/Main
compounds
Maca roots contain not only lipid, protein, carbohydrate, fiber,
vitamins and minerals, but a good number of phytonutrients like glucosinolate,
flavonoid, alkaloid, steroid, etc.
Properties
Maca has proved to be good for energy enhancement, fertility, and
stamina; improvement of sexual disorders; alleviation of postmenopausal
symptoms; keeping memory and mental clarity. Maca is also considered to be
immune – stimulant.
Remarks
Scientific studies in-vitro, in-vivo were conducted not only in Peru
but also in many other countries including Japan.
Recommended uses
Can be added in yogurt, tea, milk, coffee and juices. Is an optional
additive for desserts and cakes. Can be mixed in hot and cold liquids; with
cocoa as well. Ingredient for gluten free foodstuff.
